Frequently
Asked
Questions
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people are surprised at how gentle acupuncture feels. The needles are extremely fine—much thinner than those used for injections—so they often cause little to no discomfort. Some people may feel a slight pinch on insertion, followed by a dull, warm or tingly sensation, which indicates the treatment is working. Many clients find the experience deeply relaxing.
Can I claim with my Private Health Insurance?
Yes, if your policy covers acupuncture and your practitioner is a registered provider, you may be able to claim part of your treatment cost. We recommend checking with your insurer to confirm your level of cover and ensure your practitioner has a valid provider number.
How many sessions do I need?
This depends on your individual needs and the condition being treated. Acute issues may respond within 1–3 sessions, while chronic or long-standing conditions often require a longer course (e.g. 6–10 sessions). Cosmetic acupuncture typically works best as a series of treatments, followed by maintenance sessions. Your practitioner will provide a personalised plan based on your health goals.
How long is each treatment?
Treatment times vary depending on the service and your individual needs. Most acupuncture or cosmetic sessions run for 45 to 60 minutes, which includes consultation, needling, and additional techniques (like cupping or facial massage, if applicable).
Is there downtime after a Cosmetic Acupuncture facial?
There’s no major downtime. You may experience minor redness, sensitivity, or a small bruise at a needle site (similar to a light cosmetic treatment), but most people leave feeling refreshed and glowing. You can return to work or social activities immediately after your session.
Is it safe to receive acupuncture during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Yes—when provided by a qualified practitioner with experience in prenatal care, acupuncture is a safe and effective option during pregnancy and postpartum. It’s commonly used to support common concerns like morning sickness, fatigue, lower back pain, labour preparation, and breastfeeding support. Always let your acupuncturist know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding so they can tailor your treatment appropriately.
