In a Chinese Medicine consultation we discuss your In a Chinese Medicine consultation we discuss your chief complaint in detail, assess any scans / imaging, test results and prior treatment you may have undertaken, take a full medical history, and enquire about general health and emotional wellbeing. The traditional diagnostic practices of assessing the tongue and radial pulses are carried out at each visit. Diagnosis is especially comprehensive in order to allow for a focused and individualised treatment plan.

When it comes to treatment, emphasis is placed on restoring balance – treating health problems at their core. We discuss a treatment plan and agree on mutual goals before we begin.

Treatment consists of acupuncture in combination with tui na (Chinese massage), cupping, moxibustion, and the preparation of herbal medicine (powder or pills), as required.

Dietary and lifestyle advice will be given as necessary, with the goal to restore optimum health, and in the long run, prevent re-occurrence of disease.

Wood represents birth, growth, new beginnings. It Wood represents birth, growth, new beginnings. It corresponds to Springtime and the colour green. Wood element people are doers, with strong opinions. Their energy comes ‘at you.’ The emotion is anger and the odour sour. Wood acupuncture channels are Liver and Gallbladder, which open to the eyes. When balanced, Wood is full of life, movement, hope and optimism. It provides the ability to ‘see’ – ideas and planning for the future; inner and outer perspective. When out of balance, Wood people can become rigid and stubborn, stuck and frustrated, procrastinating on tasks instead of moving forward. #woodelement #fiveelements #spring #liver #gallbladder #green #sour #chinesemedicine #tcm #seasons #fourseasons #elemental #growth #movement #awareness #health #melbournehealth

Spring in Chinese medicine corresponds to the colo Spring in Chinese medicine corresponds to the colour green, the wood element, the Liver organ system. This is the season of new growth; time to reawaken our yang energy by being more active. While winter was a time to conserve, spring is a time of regeneration and a renewal of spirit.

Just as it is important to open up physically, be conscious to avoid emotional repression. Springtime in Chinese Medicine corresponds to the Liver energy system, which is closely linked to the emotions anger, frustration and depression. Just as you look after your body, care for yourself on an emotional level by aiming for equanimity: an open yet grounded approach. Be honest with yourself, acknowledge what you feel and learn from this awareness. As the weather changes and the air is heavy with pollens, we may be more susceptible to irritations, including hay-fever, asthma and skin reactions. Emotional problems may deepen or resurface. Acupuncture and herbal medicine can help maintain the balance of good health. Reminder to make your health a priority. Just a fe Reminder to make your health a priority. Just a few examples of what I’ve seen in clinic this past week ☯️ Link to book in bio.
HEGU, LI4, the fourth point on the Large Intestine HEGU, LI4, the fourth point on the Large Intestine channel. Master point of the head & neck. One of the most commonly used acupuncture points in general practice. Applying pressure (or acupuncture 😉) at this point can help relieve headaches, jaw & neck tension, and, especially when combined with its mirror point LR3 (between the big & second toes), is useful for strongly regulating & unblocking Qi in the entire system. In Chinese medicine, blockage causes pain & disease. We want the body to be in a state of free flow, so we’re able to adapt & stay healthy through the ebbs & flows of life. Hegu is one of my favourite points. Note of caution: avoid pressing this point in pregnancy as it can stimulate uterine contraction. In the acupuncture clinic, we needle it to help bring on labour in full term pregnancies 💜☯️
This is what self care can look like if you’re a This is what self care can look like if you’re an acupuncturist ♥️☯️ It’s different for everyone.
For me, SELF CARE is also:
- regular treatments from other practitioners (not just Chinese medicine, I have a healthcare ‘team’)
- exercise, including getting my heart rate up at least 4x a week
- making sure I eat regularly (sounds simple but I’m guilty of ‘forgetting’)
- dance (non-negotiable, it’s heart medicine for me)
- time with my partner & daughter
- time to myself
What does your self care look like?

So much wisdom in the classics 💜 I’ve had the So much wisdom in the classics 💜 I’ve had the pleasure of treating many, many kiddos with acupuncture & herbal medicine (boosting immunity, reducing the severity of coughs, colds, sniffly noses, helping calm eczema & asthmatic conditions). So often a huge part of helping any family with paediatric health is also providing care for the parents. I’m hugely passionate about maternal healthcare. And of course dads / others when they’re the primary carer. Classic Chinese medicine reminds us to look after the maternal figure when we care for a child. Ancient wisdom, modern medicine ☯️

DESERT MAGIC. After a weekend camping in the deser DESERT MAGIC. After a weekend camping in the desert I’m moving differently this week, even in the clinic. Clearer and calmer. Less noise. Feedback already from patients is there’s been some profound shifts after their acupuncture treatments ❤️ Coincidence? Who knows. What’s for sure is the desert is magical. Hoping to get away for another camping weekend before it gets too hot 🏜☀️
